COURSE DESCRIPTION:
To develop practical skills in and knowledge about the safe use of waders, and survival and rescue techniques that may be required when engaged in water related occupations requiring the use of waders.
COURSE DURATION:
1 Day
PRE-REQUISITES:
• Participant will complete a water experience and medical self-assessment form upon enrolment.
• Participants need to be medically fit
COURSE CONTENT:
Use Waders Safely – National Code: 69845
This covers subjects that include:
Practical and theory sessions addressing the following topics that are presented in the context of a workplace in which waders are worn:
• Hazards in Tasmanian aquatic environments and factors that contribute to aquatic emergency situations;
• Personal survival techniques including self-preservation in rescue situations;
• Recognition and assessment of situations requiring a rescue response;
• Rescue priorities and techniques;
• Temperatures and effect of cold water immersion, and treatment of hypothermia;
• Rescue and after-care of a person requiring assistance;
• Occupational Health and Safety – prevention of illness and injury in aquatic environments.
