This is the endorsement required by Coxswain Restricted in Tasmanian waters up to 3 nautical miles to seaward, for voyages up to 30 nautical miles (known as 3X30 limits).and is also the navigation component of the Coxswain Certificate of Competency.
A basic understanding of maths principle is requirement of this course. All who participate should be able to complete the “maths for mariners” assignment prior to attending training. If you have difficulties with this assignment STT can put you in contact with TAFE who offer free maths tuition.
COURSE DURATION:
2 day course including assessment.
PRE-REQUISITES:
Completed Maths for Mariners assignment.
COURSE CONTENT:
TDMMH1207B – Plan & navigate a short voyage within inshore limits
Coxswain Navigation covers subjects that include:
A Working knowledge of position, direction and distance on the Earth’s surface.
Navigational charts, symbols, abbreviations and plotting instruments
Tides and currents
Position fixing
Course plotting and voyage planning
Speed, time and distance calculations
Magnetism, variation, deviation and compass error calculations
